Artificial Intelligence (AI) Use & Approved Tools

Morgan County Schools supports the responsible use of artificial intelligence when it helps our teachers and staff work more effectively and improves learning for students.

AI tools are developing quickly, and not every service handles information the same way. Information entered into an AI platform may be stored, processed, shared with other services, or used in ways that are not immediately obvious to the person using it. Because of this, AI tools used with District accounts, devices, or data must be reviewed and approved by Morgan County Schools.

Approved AI Tools

Morgan County Schools currently provides and supports the following AI platforms:

SchoolAI
District-licensed AI platform designed specifically for K-12 instructional use.

Google Gemini
Available through the District's Google Workspace for Education environment.

Google NotebookLM
Available through the District's Google Workspace for Education environment for research, document analysis, and content development.

Additional AI features may also be available within other District-approved applications.

  • A website being useful or publicly available does not necessarily mean it is appropriate for use with District information.

Before an AI service is approved, the District may review how it handles information, its privacy practices and terms of service, account requirements, integrations, security, and its intended use in an educational environment.

Our goal isn't to prevent staff or students from using AI. It is to make sure the tools we use are ones the District can responsibly support and trust with our information.

    Protecting Student and District Data

Never enter confidential or protected information into an AI tool unless that service has been specifically approved for that type of information.

    This includes information such as:

    • Student names or identifying information
    • Grades, assessment results, or education records
    • IEP, 504, health, behavioral, or disciplinary information
    • Parent or employee information that is not public
    • Passwords, credentials, or security information
    • Confidential District documents or records

Removing a student's name does not always make information anonymous. Details within a prompt may still identify an individual.

  • Staff may use approved AI tools to assist with tasks such as lesson planning, brainstorming, differentiation, creating instructional materials, summarizing information, and improving written content.

AI-generated information should always be reviewed before it is used or shared. AI can produce inaccurate, incomplete, or biased information, and the employee using the tool remains responsible for the final work.

  • Student access to AI tools may be more limited than staff access and will depend on the application, grade level, instructional purpose, and District approval.

Teachers should not direct students to create accounts or use an AI service that has not been approved by the District.

For further information, please refer to the Student Code of Conduct

  • We know new tools appear almost every day, and occasionally a new platform may provide something our approved tools cannot.

Employees who believe another AI service provides a unique instructional or operational need may submit it through the District's Software Review & Adoption Process.

Please do not create accounts, purchase subscriptions, or begin using a new service with students or District data while the review is pending.
