Q & A:  What is AYP and what does it mean?

The Office of School Improvement deals directly with No Child Left Behind (NCLB) requirements for schools identified for improvement. In 2005, four schools in Morgan County as well as the Morgan County School  system were placed in "school improvement year #1". Based on adequate yearly progress, these schools, as well as the entire system, were placed on "delay" status in 2006.

The history of AYP and School improvement may be found in the appendix of the LEA plan found under "District Improvement Plans".

As a result of 2009-10 data, the District did not make AYP for the current school year.  Three district schools did not make AYP:  Cotaco School, Danville High School, and Priceville High School.  Priceville High School is currently in "school improvement year #1" since this is the second year not making AYP for their graduation rate.

Information regarding this district status may be found in this site by opening the page titled "District Status Report 2010"

Marquart, School Improvement Specialist is available to assist faculties in these efforts.  Ms. Marquart is also available to speak to P.T.A.'s, Community Groups, Civic Organizations, and other interested parties regarding No Child Left Behind requirements and Morgan County Schools' efforts to achieve these goals.  Please contact her at 256-309-2148.
